ABOUT ME

I am the fifth of six children and a homeschool graduate (1995). I live in Star, North Carolina with my husband Donny and our boys, Logan who is 4 and Henry who is 2 years old and our daughter Margaret who was born in May, 2007.

I grew up in Seagrove, North Carolina breathing fresh air in the wide open space of our family farm, Richland Creek Herb Farm. I graduated in 1998 from Sandhills Community College with an A.A.S. degree in Landscape Gardening and continued to work on the farm.

I loved raising plants, traveling, and all the rewarding feelings of populating the earth with beautiful plants, but in 2003 after the home birth of my first son, I left the family business and settled in as a work-at-home mom and homebirth advocate. Six months after Logan's birth I launched www.nchomebirth.com. At that time had a strong desire to become a postpartum doula, but before I could see my dream become a reality, I was pregnant again. Henry's birth was wonderful and it sparked in me a new desire - to one day become a midwife.

I started my journey by attending the ALACE Labor Assistant training workshop in 2005 and I also enrolled in their Childbirth Educator's training. Ten months later I was certified as a childbirth educator and as a labor assistant (birth doula). In addition, that year I started apprenticing with a homebirth midwife.

I love spending time at home with my children, working in our backyard garden, hanging out with my husband, reading and collecting books, attending workshops and of course attending births.
