Spin is a collection of images expressing ideas from Edwards Bernays' book Propaganda, from 1928. Bernays was the father of PR and propaganda, he recognised the link between psychology, advertising and marketing. The work is made up of quotes from the book and a visual response by the artist. Different symbols represent how prolific and underhanded consumerism is today. Rebecca subversively uses the clenched hand symbol, known in graphic design to represent uprising and rebellion, as a constant in each image. This image of revolution is used as a prop to show how much consumerism has literally consumed us. The work shows how even this symbol which was once powerful and political, has sold out.
